C is for Chocolate

I have decided to try something new on the blog, since i haven't blogged in a while and i have been looking for the right excuse to get back into it.
and what better excuse than chocolate?
well not exactly chocolate, i'll be trying out some recipes every now and again and if it turns out fabulous i'll share it with you.
because i'm sure some of you like cooking and baking just as much as i do!
for me it is a creative extension and a big bonus, who doesn't love delicious food?

this father's day i decided to spoil my family, my mom, my boyfriend and his parents.
since my dad passed away the only one i can spoil is my new dad.
and what better way than spending the day with them, cooking a delicious meal and just spending some quality time together?
best present ever in my opinion!

i found this recipe this week, and i must just say, it is freaking amazing, super easy and really delicious flavours.
a must try if you are a chocolate fiend like me.

• Chocolate Beer Bread / Cake •

Ingredients:

125g butter, cut into pieces
125ml milk stout (dark beer)
125g self raising flour
2,5ml bicarbonate of soda
40g cocoa powder
125g sugar
75ml milk
1 egg beaten
5ml vanilla essence
50g dark chocolate (cut into pieces)

Method:

Preheat the oven at 180 degrees
Line a small bread pan with baking paper
In a pot, heat the beer and butter over a low heat, until the butter has melted

In a mixing bowl, sift the flour, cocoa powder and bicarbonate of soda together
Add the sugar, milk, egg, vanilla essence and butter mixture, mix well
Stir in the chocolate pieces

Pour the mixture in the bread pan, bake for 50 minutes, till the test pin comes out clean

I served it with custard, cut up strawberries and a few slices of orange, to balance the sweetness and to give it a nice fresh taste.

A great dessert or tea time treat, definitely worth a try.
The family loved it, and even had seconds!
Go ahead and go bake this on a cold rainy afternoon it's the perfect winter pass time.
